Three men charged over the
death of a Taupo teenager can now be named.
Hendrix John Kahia, 30, appeared in the High Court at Rotorua
today, where he pleaded not guilty to the murder of
19-year-old Wiremu Birch.
Raymond Porky Kahia, 27, and Lee Ranginui Tawaka, 32, also
appeared and pleaded not guilty to causing grievous bodily
harm to Mr Birch.
Interim name suppression for the three men was lifted today.
A fourth man, 23-year-old Kansas Chiefy Angus Tareha, has
also been charged with causing grievous bodily harm relating
to the incident.
The four accused will reappear in the High Court for a case
review hearing on February 5. Their trial is expected to be
held in mid to late 2014.
Mr Birch was fatally wounded at the corner of Hinekura Ave
and Rifle Range Rd in Taupo on October 11. He died on the way
