A German tramper thought to be missing in the South Island
back country has been located by police.
The 22-year-old man, who had been working in Alexandra, set
out on the Dingle Burn track last month with plans to make
his way to Mt Cook.
He told an Irishman who picked him up hitchhiking he would
notify him when he had finished, and after nine days of no
contact, the Irishman became concerned for the tramper's
welfare and contacted the police.
Wanaka police search and rescue spokesman Senior Constable
Mike Johnston said following inquiries and information
received from the public, it was discovered the man had
returned to Germany.
