A central North Island couple have scooped $8.6 million in
lotto winnings this week.
The Turangi couple, who wish to remain anonymous, won both
the first and second division prizes in the Big Wednesday
draw after purchasing tickets from the lotto outlet at the
Turangi Civic Video.
The couple, who describe themselves as proud Turangi locals,
said they were overjoyed at the win, and were looking forward
to contributing some money to their community.
"When I checked the tickets in-store, one said 'Second
Division' and the other said 'First Division'. I just started
shaking and could barely breathe," the winning woman said.
"When I told my partner he was so flustered, he just keep
wandering around saying 'oh no, oh no, oh no' - he was
excited, but it just couldn't sink in. Now we're both just
saying 'oh yes!' " the woman said.
The couple, who are yet to decide exactly how to spend their
winnings, said winning lotto had always been a popular topic
"We're just so happy and amazed. Most weeks we talk about
what we'd do if we won Lotto - and now we have.
"I don't know how our lives are going to change because of
this win, but for now we feel so fortunate and blessed."
Giving something back to the community, who were "like
family" to the couple, was on the list, she said.
Meanwhile, another large prize has been won from a store in
Mount Maunganui. Lotto confirmed yesterday a $1 million first
division winning ticket for this weekend had been purchased
from the Bayfair Lotto store. The ticket is yet to be
