Second arrest after Auckland brawl

A second man has been arrested following a violent brawl in south Auckland at the weekend.

The 21-year-old has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and will appear in the Papakura District Court on Tuesday.

Royce Grace, also 21, appeared in Papakura District Court this morning facing the same charge. He is due to reappear in court in January.

Following the brawl, the injuries of a 30-year-old male victim were so serious that police who found him in Papakura on Saturday night initially thought he had been stabbed in the head.

The man was found unconscious and suffering from severe head injuries. He was taken to hospital where he had surgery.

Police believed he was hit over the head with a heavy object.

He remained in a serious condition in Auckland Hospital this afternoon, an Auckland District Health Board spokeswoman said.

Police were called to the Rollerson St address about 8pm after reports of people fighting outside a house party and using knives, sticks and rocks as weapons.
