Sex shops pull tainted chocolate body paint

New Zealand sex stores have cleared their shelves of a range of Chinese chocolate body paints found to contain melamine.

More than 50,000 babies have fallen ill in China after drinking formula that contained the industrial chemical, added to increase protein content.

New Zealand Food Safety Authority compliance and investigation director Geoff Allen said although sex shops had volunteered to take the products off shelves, it would be looking into the matter.

John Frew of Peaches and Cream adult store in Christchurch said he found out on Tuesday that the chocolate-flavoured products, were tainted with the chemical.

"We're pulling the product," he told The Press.

"We've found that it does have melamine in it."

It was unlikely people could be harmed because they would not eat enough.
