Two arrests after violent burglary

Two men have been charged following a violent burglary which left two victims with serious facial injuries, including one who needed an eye surgically removed.

A 27-year-old and a 43-year-old were arrested after police, investigating the home invasion in Whakamarama home on Sunday night, raided a Filthy Few Motorcycle Club's property in Birch Ave, Tauranga yesterday.

The two men were charged with aggravated burglary, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and injuring with intent to injure.

A 50-year-old man remained in Tauranga Hospital in a stable condition last night, while a 31-year-old man was discharged.

Police would not say whether the victims, believed to be father and son, were known to their attackers.

Officers spoke to more than a dozen members of the motorcycle gang during the morning raid, with reports from the scene saying the Armed Offenders Squad, detectives, several police units and police dogs carried out the search.

Filthy Few members were split into groups, separated and questioned by police.

Four masked people entered the Whakamarama home on Sunday night and seriously assaulted the two occupants inside, police say.

Both occupants were admitted to Tauranga Hospital with serious facial injuries. One required an eye to be surgically removed.
