Body found in search for missing footballer

The body of a man has been found at Castle Rock south of Masterton.

It is believed to be the remains of missing Wairarapa football player and coach Miroslav Tvaroh.

The 34-year-old went missing on Christmas Eve, after going to Castlepoint in Masterton.

The body was located by a search and rescue helicopter around 7.45am, below a bluff system at Castle Rock.

The Amalgamated Helicopters crew had been tasked to search the area at low tide.

Staff from Riverdale Surf Lifesaving, who were in the area helping with the search, also assisted to recover the remains.

A formal identification of the body has yet to be made, but the family of Greytown man Mr Tvaroh have been informed, police said.

Early investigations suggest he may have fallen from Castle Rock, police said.
