Whangarei arson accused remanded in custody

A Whangarei man charged with arson after a house fire in Purua, north of Whangarei, last year, has been remanded in custody.

Warren Trevor Bath (aka Tomlin), 51, appeared in the Whangarei District Court on Tuesday on a charge of arson after a house on Irvine Rd at Purua was allegedly set alight between February 22 and 23, 2012, while the owner was overseas. The house was destroyed by the fire.

Bath also faced several charges on an unrelated matter, including two charges of making an intimate recording (one of these is a representative charge); one representative charge of publishing an intimate recording; and two charges of possession of an intimate recording (one of these is a representative charge).

Bail was not applied for and Judge Duncan Harvey remanded Bath in custody until February 3, but gave leave to apply for bail with 24 hours notice to the court.
