A Wellington woman suffered moderate injuries when she was
washed off the rocks at Castlepoint in coastal Wairarapa this
The woman in her 40s, who was on holiday in the area, had
been walking along the rocks with family members when she was
washed into the sea by a wave about 1.45pm.
Westpac rescue helicopter crewman Colin Larsen, of the Life
Flight Trust, said the woman was swept off the rocks in an
area often used by fishermen.
"After being washed on and off the rocks by the surge two to
three times she was able to scramble out of the water, with
assistance from family and bystanders," he said.
"It was fortunate that she did not sustain more severe
