Man charged over mower death

A 72-year-old man has been charged with reckless driving causing death after a 4-year-old boy was killed by a lawnmower in Hastings last October.

Uetaha Dahtanian Ransfield-Wanoay, described by his family as "clever" and "bubbly", was playing at Kirkpatrick Park in Camberley when the accident happened.

At the time police said they understood the boy had been playing with older cousins when he was hit by a tractor towing a rotary mower.

The boy's grandmother, Donna Hutana, said at the time she didn't want to imagine how horrific the accicent would have been.

Her grandson was a "very, very clever little boy" who was "bubbly" and loved computer games, she said.

"He was full of joy and bounce."

The charged man will appear in Hastings District Court on February 12.
