A forestry worker killed by a falling log in Marlborough
yesterday has been named as William Bryant.
The 53-year-old was pronounced dead by ambulance staff after
the incident on a private forestry block in the Wairau Valley
Police said he had been leading a crew of four workers when
he was struck by a falling log about 10am, Radio New Zealand
Mr Bryant was killed instantly.
WorkSafe NZ, which is investigating, said the death
demonstrated the need for drastic change in the sector.
Ten people died in forestry accidents last year.
