Teen fights for life after motorcross crash

A 15-year-old boy is fighting for his life following a motocross crash north of Auckland.

The teenager suffered life-threatening head and neck injuries after falling during a high-speed 30 metre jump at a Tapu Bush Rd property, about five minutes east of Wellsford about 7.30pm last night.

St John Ambulance were alerted by a person at the property. A spokesman said the teen was wearing full protective motocross gear at the time of the crash, including a helmet.

The Westpac Rescue Helicopter flew him to Auckland hospital just before 9pm.

A spokesman from the Auckland District Health Board said this morning the teen was in a critical condition.
