Fire guts Ashburton industrial building

A fire in Ashburton gutted a local industrial building early this morning.

Southern fire communications shift manager Jill Higgison said two engines responded to the Dobson St fire at 6.40am today.

The fire was "well involved" when crews arrived, she said.

It had yet to be determined whether the fire was suspicious, and a specialist fire investigator would be looking into the cause of the fire later today. "The fire's out and they're ventilating."

The fire occurred in the local Bio Oils building, Ms Higgison said.

Bio Oils director Daryl Prebble said the building was "not looking flash".

The company's website describes the Bio Oils as the country's largest producer of cold-pressed, New Zealand grown flax seed oil and flax seed fibre.
