Two people have been seriously burnt in several explosions and a fire at a rural property near Whangarei.
Emergency Services were called to Opouteke Road, Pakotai, about 7:35 last night, and when they arrived they found a shed and a car on fire.
Two people were located with serious burns and were flown to Middlemore Hospital in Auckland by helicopter.
Police believe the explosions and fire were the result of an accident at a clandestine methamphetamine lab.
Emergency workers and neighbours who went to the scene were decontaminated and police forensic specialists were testing the scene. The area was under guard overnight.
