Two hurt as top-dressing plane crashes

Two people suffered serious injuries when their top-dressing plane crashed in Hawkes Bay this morning.

The plane crashed just short of an airstrip on an Otane property, south of Hastings, after clipping a deer fence while landing about 6.15am, central fire shift manager Craig Dally said.

Fire crews had extricated the pair from the plane, he said.

Police said the pair suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries.

They were flown to Hawkes Bay Regional Hospital in Hastings.

The Civil Aviation Authority had been notified and would be at the scene this morning.
