Children hurt in school bus crash

Emergency services are responding to a crash involving a school bus south of Te Puke this morning.

The collision between a light truck and a full school bus happened about 8.20am on State Highway 2 near Te Matai Rd.

Three pupils received minor bumps and cuts while the driver of the truck was trapped and needed to be freed, police said.

He was thought to have moderate injuries.

The crash occurred close to the school and pupils had been walked the remaining distance.

Police have closed the section of SH2 from Rangiruru Rd and Te Matai.

The injured children are understood to be receiving treatment from parents and Te Matai School staff as emergency services respond.

The intersection is a well-known black spot for crashes.
