Suspicious fires under investigation

Two suspicious fires which occurred in South Auckland overnight are under investigation.

The first fire occurred at an unoccupied house in Geraldine Rd in Otara, northern fire communications shift inspector Jaron Philips said.

Emergency services were made aware of the blaze at around 3.45am.

"The house was well involved when fire fighters arrived."

The house was badly damaged by the fire, he said.

The second fire took place around the corner from the first shortly later when a shed at a Dawson Rd property caught fire around 4.30am.

The fire was close to a house situated on the same property, but it the fire didn't spread, Mr Philips said.

"That house was unoccupied as well." Both fires were being treated as suspicious, however it had yet to be determined whether they were linked.
