A man's body has been found on a beach near the mouth of the Kahurangi River on the West Coast.
The body was discovered at the high tide mark this morning by two trampers walking along the beach. Items believed to belong to the dead man were also located.
This afternoon police took the body to Greymouth and were working to identify the person and establish the cause of death. Formal identification was expected to take some time.
The man was wearing a wetsuit, Sergeant Brett Currie said.
