Missing trampers found in Arthur's Pass

A father and daughter who had been missing at Arthur's Pass since Sunday have been found safe and well today.

Jeremy Walsh, 56, and 24-year-old Lucy-Jane Walsh from Christchurch were reported missing on Sunday night after failing to return home from an overnight tramp.

They were found during a helicopter search about 8.40am, Search and Rescue coordinator Detective Logan Penrose said.

The pair was discovered near the headwaters of the Rolleston River.

"They were cold but are otherwise well and uninjured," Mr Penrose said.

"We understand the pair had deviated from the track instructions and were unable to regain the track in the upper regions of the Rolleston River. This track is known to be poorly formed and in a difficult area.

"They have done the right thing by choosing to remain in one spot and await rescue."
