Men sought after home invasion hammer attack

Police are looking for two men following a violent home invasion in Papamoa earlier today.

Detective Sergeant Darryl Brazier said police believed the men involved in the aggravated burglary and assault at the Karewa Parade home this morning were carrying a hammer and a small gun.

Mr Brazier said the men were described as Maori, in their 30s to early 40s.

Police understood two men confronted the three occupants of the house, assaulting one and threatening each of them before leaving with some of their belongings, he said.

Mr Brazier said people in the area should not be worried, as police believed the occupants of the house were known to the men.

Police would like to hear from anyone who has information or sightings of two Maori men riding pushbikes this morning in the Papamoa area.
