A collision between a train and ute has left one person injured in Canterbury.
Southern communications shift inspector John Doherty said emergency services were called to the incident at the Hatfield-Overdale Road crossing near Rakaia at 2.50pm.
A man in his 20s was driving the ute, and he rang police about the incident, Mr Doherty said.
Fire Service southern communications shift manager Karl Patterson said a team was sent to help the man.
An ambulance spokeswoman said one person was taken to Ashburton Hospital with moderate injuries.
