Burned farm worker faces drug charges

A Wairarapa farm worker who drove 8km after suffering severe burns from an oven fire last month is now facing drug charges, says Masterton police Sergeant Jymahl Glassey.

In agonising pain, the man drove himself from his Western Lake Rd house to the Featherston shops to seek help.

Staff from Featherston Lotto and Post and Gusto Cafe and Bakery on Fitzherbert St poured buckets of water on the man until paramedics arrived.

He was airlifted to Hutt Hospital by Life Flight's Westpac rescue helicopter.

Featherston fire chief Colin McKenna told the Times-Age it appeared the man had possibly spilled liquid on himself while cooking at an electric oven, and the liquid may have caught fire.
