Missing man's wallet, shoes found on beach

A wallet and a pair of shoes and socks believed to belong to a missing Christchurch man have been found on a West Coast beach.

Kurt Green, 30, who has a diminished mental capacity, was reported missing at the weekend. He was last seen in the Sydenham area in Christchurch on March 8. However, today police stated that Mr Green had travelled to Greymouth that day.

According to Greymouth police Detective Sergeant Gavin Nichols, Mr Green travelled to Greymouth with friends on Saturday March 8 and stayed the night with friends in Blaketown.

"He was last seen walking away from the address towards the Blaketown tiphead."

Mr Nichols said that last Tuesday, during a beach clean-up some of Mr Green's personal property, including his wallet and shoes and socks were found.

"The people doing the clean up handed them in to police.

Mr Nichols said that members of Mr Green's family had raised concerns about him as they had not heard from him for over a week, which was out of character.

"We are now in the process of trying to find out whether Mr Green made it beyond the tiphead and we need to hear from anyone who has information about where Mr Green might be."

The last confirmed sighting of Mr Green was well over a week ago and on the Blaketown beach - "so we are very concerned about him".

Mr Nichols urged anyone who had information about Mr Green to contact their local police station immediately.

"We are also speaking with the person who discovered the items belonging to Mr Green. They will be showing us where they were found and it is likely we will be co-ordinating a beach search."
