Elderly pedestrian run down in Hamilton

An elderly woman was seriously injured when she was run down in a Hamilton shopping centre car park today.

Hamilton police Senior Sergeant Dave Litton said emergency services were called to the Horsham Downs Shopping Centre in Rototuna about 10.20am.

"The matter is still under investigation but initial indications an 87-year-old woman was walking across a pedestrian crossing in the shopping centre car park when she was struck down by a vehicle and had her leg run over."

She was seriously injured, he said.

The incident followed the deaths of two other elderly pedestrians after being fatally struck in the Waikato this year, Mr Litton said.
