Adult and child pedestrians seriously hurt

An adult and a child were seriously injured when they were hit by a car in west Auckland last night.

The pair were struck on Great North Road at Glendene shortly after 7pm, ambulance communications shift manager Ptrece Gosney-Payne said.

One was in a critical condition, while the other was serious, she said.

They were both taken to Auckland City Hospital.

The adult and child are believed to have been pedestrians.

An eye witness said the child appeared to be aged around 7- or 8-years-old.

"The driver looked very distressed and was hitting his own head on his car windscreen," she said.
