Family left reeling by Kiwi's Taiwan death

The family of a Christchurch man who died after a scooter accident in Taiwan say they have been left reeling after the tragedy.

Tim Pennington, 26, had been living in Taichung with his wife Sara, also from Christchurch.

He died overnight on Monday in intensive care after the accident earlier on Monday.

His parents, Eric and Karen, flew to Taiwan immediately after hearing the news.

Mr Pennington's sister Rebecca told APNZ the family were in shock.

"He's going to be sadly missed ... we're still reeling, and coming to terms with it all."

She said her parents had just arrived in Taiwan.

"We're just really grateful for all the support from various churches that we're all connected with."

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said yesterday it was aware of the former Riccarton High and University of Canterbury student's death.

"We have offered our condolences and consular assistance to his wife in Taiwan," a spokesperson said.

The couple married in April last year.
