State Highway 5 south of Rotorua is closed after a truck crashed early this morning, spilling diesel all over the road.
Police and emergency services are still at the scene of the accident, which happened at 4.30am near Waiotapu Rd.
The accident caused a diesel spill, closing both lanes until the road can be cleared.
A Northern Police communications spokesman said the driver had been taken to Rotorua Hospital with minor injuries, which weren't life-threatening.
No one else was involved in the crash but the road is not expected to reopen until at least midday.
Drivers are being diverted through Atiamuri on State Highway 30 to State Highway 1 in both directions.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
