Baby who drowned at marina named

The 7-month-old Auckland boy who died after falling into Whitianga marina has been formally named by police.

He was Carlo Domett Caesar.

A police investigation is continuing into how he ended up in the water near a wharf, on Saturday morning.

Sergeant Andrew Morrison said family members were understandably distraught by what happened.

"As our investigations continue, New Zealand Police wish to express our condolences to Carlo's family in what are very tragic circumstances.

"Speaking to the family today they are very upset and ask that their privacy be respected as they work their way through this ordeal."

Victim Support was working closely with the family, Mr Morrison said.

The death has been reported to the Coroner.
