Man punches woman in face, pulls her into car, drives off

A man punched a woman in the head as she walked along a suburban Whangarei street then hauled her into a car and drove off, according to a witness.

Whangarei police Sergeant Wayne Kelman said a member of the public saw a woman walking along Keyte St, Kensington, about 3.30pm on Tuesday.

A man was seen getting out of the front passenger seat of a black or gunmetal grey Nissan station wagon, which was parked nearby.

Police say the man walked up to the woman and punched her in the side of the head. As she started to fall, he caught her and dragged her into the back seat of the car.

The car drove off and was last seen turning left into Curtis St.

Police are appealing for information from the public in a bid to identify the man. Anyone with information can contact Whangarei police on 09 430 4500 or if they wish to remain anonymous they can contact the Crimestoppers, 0800 555 111.
