A 19-year-old male suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car near Gore last night.
The victim was flown by helicopter to Dunedin Hospital and is this morning in a stable, but critical condition.
Police said the accident happened at about 8:40pm last night on the Waimea Highway, State Highway 94, six kilometres North of Gore.
State Highway 94 was closed for a short time.
Police enquiries are continuing into the cause of the crash and a number of witnesses are assisting.
