Suspicious fire damages primary school

A suspicious fire has seriously damaged an Auckland primary school overnight.

The fire service was called to the Fryberg Memorial Community School on Roberts Road in Te Atatu just after midnight, northern fire communications shift manager Megan Ruru said.

The building was "well ablaze" by the time fire crews arrived.

Seven appliances were sent to the scene, Ms Ruru said.

The fire was considered suspicious and a fire investigator had already been to the site, she said.

Nobody was injured in the blaze.
