Electric blanket suspected cause of house fire

Two people were taken to hospital this morning after an early morning house fire in Auckland.

Four fire crews were called to the blaze at a house on Miller St, Point Chevalier, about 4.45am.

Fire spokesman Paul Radden said one level of the multi-storey house was well ablaze but had been brought under control by 6am.

Fire crews treated two occupants for smoke inhalation before ambulance crews arrived and took them to hospital.

One fire crew remains at the house to monitor the scene and dampen down hot spots, while a fire investigator was there to look at what caused the blaze.

3News reported it might have started when an electric blanket was left on in a spare room.
