A man has been arrested in relation to the death of New
Zealander Karl Jones in London, local newspapers report.
The 34-year-old, who had been living in the English capital
for seven years, died following the incident in the early
hours of Sunday, June 1.
He was hit by a black Volkswagen Golf, and died at the scene.
A postmortem examination stated the cause of death as a chest
Mr Jones, a civil engineer originally from Te Awamutu, had
earlier been involved in an altercation in the Southern Belle
pub on Fulham Palace Rd.
A 38-year-old man from Chiswick has been arrested over the
fatal collision, local news website Chiswick W4 reports.
It is believed police traced the suspect car to an address,
and arrested the man on suspicion of causing death by
He was bailed pending further enquiries until a date in early
July, Chiswick W4 said.
A woman, 33, was also arrested but has since been released
Officers from the serious collision investigation unit, based
at Hampton Traffic Garage, are investigating Mr Jones' death.
"Our enquiries have now established Mr Jones was involved in
two separate incidents - one in the Southern Belle pub and
one where he was involved in a collision with a black VW
Golf," Detective Sergeant Jeff Edwards said.
He called on witnesses of either incidents to come forward.
