Crews battle blaze at Wellington factory

Firefighters are battling a serious fire at a factory in Newtown, Wellington.

The blaze in The French Door Factory building in Mansfield Street began around 4:45pm today, and more than 24 firefighters were at the scene trying to get it under control.

The Fire Service was concerned about the flames spreading, fire communications centre shift manager Mike Wanoa said.

"It is certainly very, very close to other buildings ... that is a concern.

"Two crews with breathing apparatus have since moved inside the building."

Mr Wanoa said the fire began in a hopper inside the single-storey building of 10 metres by 15 metres.

There were no reports of any injuries from the fire, he said.
