Arrest over Gisborne dairy robbery

Police have made arrests after a Gisborne dairy was robbed this morning.

Police were notified about the incident at Adi's Dairy at the corner of Childers and Chalmers rds shortly after 9.20am.

"A man entered the shop and allegedly threatened shop staff before making off with a quantity of cash from the till," a police spokesman said.

"Reports indicated the man had a gun of some description." The staff in the shop were shaken up but not injured in the incident, he said.

Police said a car allegedly used in the robbery was seen going to a property.

"Members of the Armed Offenders Squad and other police went to the address at about 10.15am and took two or three people at the house into custody," the police spokesman said.

Police set up cordons around the Elgin area during the incident and a street was closed off during the arrests.
