Arrests after Coromandel AOS callout

Two men have been arrested following an incident in which shots were fired in Coromandel yesterday.

Members of the Waikato Armed Offenders Squad were flown to Coromandel about 3pm, after two men allegedly went to a home near the local tavern and threatened the occupants with firearms.

A number of shots were fired throughout the incident but no one was hurt, police said.

Two men were arrested. One was released overnight without charge, and a 41-year-old man was charged with an earlier aggravated robbery.

He appeared in the Hamilton District Court today.

Detective Sergeant Martyn Hughes said the property remained cordoned off today as police continued a scene examination.

"In addition, a vehicle involved in the incident is also being examined while a male from the property is currently being interviewed and our investigators are conducting an area canvas of local residents."

Mr Hughes said it may be several days before police were able to confirm what happened yesterday.
