Christchurch fires treated as suspicious

The Fire Service is treating two fires at red-zoned properties in Christchurch as suspicious.

Fires broke out at two properties on Avonside Drive this morning, southern fire communications shift manager Jill Higgison said.

The Fire Service was alerted at 7.13am to the first fire at an Avonside Drive property near Galbraith Ave and then to a second fire at 7.32am at Avonside Drive property near Stanmore Drive, she said.

Firefighters were still at the scene of both blazes, she said.

The fires are the latest in a series of fires at abandoned Canterbury properties, some of them found to have been deliverately lit.
