Pedestrian hit by car critical

Police are appealing for assistance to identify a man who was critically injured when he was hit by a car in Manukau last night.

The man, who is aged around 50, was struck by a car just after 11pm last night on Great South Rd near Ryan Place, police said.

The man was taken to Middlemore Hospital and remains there in a critical condition.

Police described him as around 175cm, slim and with dark skin. He is possibly Fijian, police said, and has a thin moustache.

The man was wearing black work boots, faded blue jeans and a black and orange HiViz jacket.

Police said no identification was found on the man but he was in possession of a silver coloured cigarette tin with a picture of a heron and eagle on the front.
