Man charged over Northland home invasion

A man has been charged over a Northland home invasion in which five masked and armed men entered a house and assaulted the occupants.

A 27-year-old was arrested in Auckland last week, following the incident in Tinopai in June.

He has been charged with aggravated robbery, kidnapping, wounding with intent, and aggravated burglary.

The man was remanded in custody to reappear in Dargaville District Court on October 16.

Three adults and two teenage boys were in the Tinopai Rd house when the incident took place on Sunday, June 8, around 5.30pm.

The balaclava-clad robbers were all carrying weapons, with one carrying a firearm, police said at the time.

The occupants were assaulted before one of them escaped and ran to a neighbour for help. They were later taken to Whangarei Hospital with minor and moderate injuries.

Police are still looking for some offenders and appealed to the public for information.

Anyone with information was asked to contact Dargaville police on 09 439 3400 or anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
