Woman trapped in Hanmer crash

A 4WD vehicle rolled on top of a woman and pinned her legs for two hours before she was found by her husband.

The 53-year-old woman had got out of the vehicle to open a gate in the Hanmer River/Emu Plains area when the 4WD rolled back into a bank and tipped onto its side, trapping her, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service said.

She was found two hours later about 9pm by her husband who had gone out looking for her.

Emergency services travelled to her location on 4WD vehicles because of the terrain, the rescue helicopter service said.

She was freed from beneath the vehicle and treated at the scene by emergency services before being transported to Christchurch Hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter in a moderate to serious condition.
