Quake rattles eastern North Island

A moderate earthquake rattled East Coast residents last night.

The quake, measuring magnitude 4, hit at 10.32pm, GNS Science said.

It was centred 15km north west of Matawai, north of Gisborne and was 53km deep.

GNS said the tremor would likely have been felt by people in the area.
