Man falls into moulding machine

A man was injured when he fell into a plastic moulding machine at an Auckland factory early today.

Emergency services were called to Sistema Plastics in Penrose about 4am, northern fire communications shift manager Steve Smith said.

The worker had fallen into a plastic moulding machine, he said.

Sistema Plastics general manager Drew Muirhead said the man was sitting on the machine, which was not running, and he fell about a metre backwards into it.

"He's hurt his shoulder and at this point we believe he's got a broken arm."

Staff stayed with him until he was taken to Auckland Hospital by ambulance, Mr Muirhead said.

"He's out of X-ray now and he's comfortable."

Reports that he was trapped for an hour were incorrect, he said.

The machine had been inspected but it was now running as normal, he said.
