Arrests after Auckland ram raids

Four people have been arrested after two service stations were ram-raided in South Auckland overnight.

A stolen car was driven into the shop door of a Z Energy station on Mount Wellington Highway about 1.30am, police said.

Three people from the car forced their way into the shop and stole drinks and confectionary.

The shop assistant, who fled to a back room during the attack, was uninjured.

About half an hour later the same group made a similar raid on the Challenge station on Station Road in Papatoetoe, police said.

The car was driven into the front of the shop, causing the attendant to seek refuge in the rear of the store.

Shortly after leaving that service station the car was seen by a police patrol driving along Station Road, which tried to stop the vehicle.

The police chase ended when the driver of the car failed to negotiate the intersection of Station and Portage Roads and the car crashed into and destroyed a phone box, police said.

The four occupants of the car were uninjured and arrested at the scene.
