Stolen car driven through garage doors

Police say a teenage boy was drunk when he reversed a stolen car through closed garage doors before crashing early this morning.

A police spokeswoman said police were alerted after a car was taken from a garage on Lower Queen Street, Richmond, about 2am today.

The boy drove the car through a closed gate after smashing through the garage doors. The car was shortly after found crashed down a bank in nearby Lower Queen Street.

"Police located the 15 year after he had unlawfully taken a vehicle on another property on Lower Queen Street," police spokeswoman Barbara Dunn said. "He was breath tested and returned a result of 800mcg per litre of breath, which is double the current adult limit."

A 15 year-old Motueka boy will appear in the Youth Court today facing a drink driving charge, one burglary charge and two charges of unlawfully taking a vehicle.
