Five injured in large North Canterbury crash

Five people have been taken to hospital after a four car crash north of Christchurch.

The crash happened about 2.32pm and police, fire and ambulance rushed to the scene.

Seven people were injured, of which five were taken to Christchurch Hospital. Two have serious injuries and three have minor to moderate injuries.

St John have now cleared the scene of the crash on State Highway 1, meaning all injured people have been taken away.

The Fire Service and police remain in place.
