Voucher for late flights

Jetstar will give a $25 voucher to every domestic passenger whose flight is more than 10 minutes late for the next eight days.

The airline's 'punctuality promise' campaign will run for the next eight days on all Jetstar domestic New Zealand flights and will apply to all delays, including those caused by weather.

Jetstar New Zealand head Grant Kerr said the airline wanted to promote its improvement in domestic punctuality by putting their money where their mouth was.

Jetstar carried up to 5000 passengers around the country every day and there would be no changes to regular airline operations during the period of the campaign, he said.

"If any of our domestic flights arrives more than 10 minutes after scheduled arrival time during the period of the campaign then every passenger will receive a $25 Jetstar flight voucher as they disembark the aircraft, even if the delay was caused by something outside our control such as weather.

"We're not adding any extra resources or doing anything differently."

The campaign began with Jetstar's first domestic flight this morning and will end with the last domestic flight of the day on Tuesday, September 30.

The arrival time is determined by the time when the aircraft comes to a complete stop at the arrival gate and the handbrake is applied.

Jetstar spokesman Phil Boeyen said the campaign was limited to domestic flights because that was where they saw punctuality needing the most improvement.

"We're certainly expecting to give out a few hundred vouchers a day."
