New Zealand has been put on the celebrity-pooch map after global superstar Lady Gaga bought a month's worth of dog food from a Tauranga company.

The star's much-loved French Bulldog, Asia, was treated to the natural kiwi cuisine ZiwiPeak while the entertainer was in Dubai recently for her world tour.

At Lady Gaga's request, a member of her entourage purchased a month's supply of the pet food from The Pet Shop in Dubai.

Asia was treated to a 5kg bag of ZiwiPeak's air-dried venison, along with 18 tins of ZiwiPeak's moist canned pet food in both venison, fish and lamb flavours.

A Pet Shop employee Filipina Angeles was reported to have served the star's staff.

"He said thank goodness he found the shop because he got everything he wanted. But just before leaving he did mention that all he bought was for Lady Gaga's dog," Gulf News reported.

The Mount Maunganui-based pet food company stumbled across the news when the Dubai retailer posted the news to their Facebook page.

"So Lady #GAGA has arrived in the #UAE, and she has brought her #Frenchie #Asia (nicknamed #Batpig !) with her! Gaga's PA popped in to our Green Community store yesterday to buy Asia some ZiwiPeak Lamb wet dog food, a top quality food. Only the best for little Asia!" the post said.

ZiwiPeak director Nigel Woodd said the company was "delighted" to hear of the celeb's purchase but was not surprised.

"The product is rated independently as one of the best natural foods in the world ... "These celebrities spend a lot on their dogs and cats.

"To us it reinforced the years of very hard work and effort we've put in."

Kelly Osbourne was also spotted carrying the food from a store in 2013.
