Second teen charged over Whangarei murder

A second teenager has been charged with the murder of Whangarei man Michael Griffin.

Police said a 17-year-old youth would appear in Whangarei District Court today.

Mr Griffin, 56, was found at the rear of his home with serious head injuries early on October 5.

He was taken to Whangarei Hospital where he died.

A 16-year-old youth was earlier charged with murder.

That youth appeared in Whangarei Youth Court earlier this month and was remanded in custody to reappear in the High Court on October 23.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dene Begbie said today that police had made significant progress in the inquiry, but were still seeking witnesses.
