Armed police called out in Northland

A court bailiff allegedly had a gun pointed at him when he visited a Northland home to seize property today.

Police say the bailiff went to a house on Koropewa Rd, near Waipapa, about 10.50am. The bailiff had a court order to seize property but there was an altercation and the occupant allegedly presented a firearm, believed to be a rifle.

Police closed off Koropewa Rd and cordoned others in the area with spikes and armed police.

Officers from Mangonui to Kawakawa were at the scene plus the Armed Offenders Squad from Whangarei and a specialist police negotiation team.

About 2.30pm a person from the house was taken by police to the Kerikeri Police Station and all officers were stood down.
