Police car rammed

A police car were rammed twice by a driver trying to flee from pursuing officers in Christchurch, police say.

The incident occurred this morning after police attempted to stop the car on Marshland Rd, and a pursuit began.

It was called off on Linwood Ave due to danger, police said.

Cordons were set up in the Hillmorton area of Christchurch and police found the vehicle in a no exit road, where it's alleged a police car was rammed twice.

Police say the vehicle was then driven towards an officer who was trying to arrest the driver, but the officer was able to leap out of its path.

After a struggle between the fleeing driver, police, a police dog handler and dog, a man was tasered and arrested.

An officer injured during the arrest was treated for a lacerations to their hand at the scene by colleagues, and another officer received back injuries when their patrol vehicle was rammed.

One of the two passengers in the fleeing vehicle was taken to Christchurch Hospital for treatment for a dog bite on their hand but discharged themselves without treatment.

A man appeared in Christchurch District Court today on a range of charges including reckless driving, assault with a weapon, and drug charges.
